Ingredients

  • 1 Yellow Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 Sweet Apple (Sliced
  • 2 Cloves Garlic (Minced)
  • 1 Tbsp Vegitable Oil
  • Bratwurst (5 Links)
  • 24 Oz. Sauerkraut
  • 1/4 Tsp Caraway Seeds (Optional)
  • 1/4 Tsp Paprika
  • 1/4 Tsp Freshly Cracked Pepper
  • 1 Cup Chicken Broth

How to Make

Step 1.

Slice the onion and the apple, and mince the garlic.

Step 2.

Add the oil to a large deep skillet pot and heat over medium heat. When the pan and oil are hot, add the bratwurst and cook on each side until well browned. Remove the browned bratwurst to a plate.

Step 3.

Add the onions, apples, and garlic to the pan and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the onions are soft.

Step 4.

Drain the sauerkraut and add it to the skillet, along with the spices and chicken broth. Stir to combine with the apples and onions. Nestle the browned bratwurst down into the sauerkraut.

Step 5.

Add the bratwurst back to the pan and cover with the sauerkraut mixture.

Step 6.

Cover the pan and bring to a simmer. Continue to simmer on medium low for 20 minutes; until the bratwursts are cooked through. Serve hot with a side of bread and butter or mashed potatoes.
